ZIEGLER and MAN are delighted to announce a major order for 83 new HLF 20 for the professional fire departments of Munich and Augsburg. The first two prototypes will be delivered by the end of 2025, with the remaining 81 vehicles to be delivered by the end of 2028. Three of these vehicles are designated for the Augsburg professional fire department. The vehicles are built on a MAN TGM 16.320 4×2 Euro 6 chassis and are characterized by their compact dimensions (overall length 8,040 mm, overall width 2,440 mm, overall height 3,200 mm). As the general contractor, ZIEGLER is supplying not only the chassis and superstructure but also a large portion of the firefighting equipment.

“We will set another milestone with the new generation of vehicles: Further development of extraordinarily proven standards, significantly improved safety, many detailed improvements in the equipment technology, new innovations in the area of connectivity and digital provision of operational information for efficient and effective operational measures", says Jörg Fiebach, Project Manager at the Professional Munich Fire Department.

The city of Munich places high demands on the new firefighting vehicles. Particularly important is the required small turning circle of less than 15 meters. In narrow and difficult-to-pass streets and squares of large cities like Munich, maximum maneuverability and flexibility are required.

Thanks to the flexible ALPAS system, ZIEGLER was able to master these challenges. The latest generation of ALPAS offers plenty of space to accommodate the entire firefighting equipment in the superstructure. This makes the new vehicles ideally suited for operations in densely built-up urban areas. The low road chassis and the low center of gravity ensure optimum driving characteristics and a favorable removal height for the equipment. Jörg Fiebach adds: “We are delighted that ZIEGLER's tailor-made concept meets our exact requirements. The new vehicles are perfectly adapted to the urban conditions in Munich and offer the necessary maneuverability and flexibility for our operations”.

The ZIEGLER crew cab Z-Cab was also specially configured for the requirements of the professional fire department and is designed for a crew of 1+7, including an action tower. Particular attention has been paid to safety: In this vehicle configuration, the Z-Cab is certified in accordance with the ECE R29-3 standard.

Another highlight of the new vehicle fleet is the equipment with the digital products Z-Connect and Z-Remote from ZIEGLER. These technologies enable the vehicles to be fully connected with each other, which not only increases the efficiency and coordination of the emergency services, but also takes into account future requirements for connecting and digitalization in emergency services.
“The future of connected firefighting vehicles starts here – with Z-Connect”, says Johannes Taglang, Product Manager for Digital Products at ZIEGLER.

“We are actively shaping the development of smart cities with our innovative connectivity solutions, which for the first time offer the opportunity to connect vehicles, equipment, people and other organizations in a cloud-based ecosystem. As a pioneer and innovator, the professional fire department of Munich is setting a new benchmark in terms of connectivity, efficiency, service and ultimately safety with its smart vehicle fleet. With the new, highly specialized vehicles, Munich is ideally equipped to meet the challenges of the urban environment and ensure the safety of its citizens.

As usual, detailed technical data can be found in the official press release.
